As we are now less than a week away from Thanksgiving, let’s round up this list of creating a beautiful guest bedroom. There’s still plenty of time as doing all of these things maybe takes me about half an hour to get ready. And you probably have almost everything you need on hand already.
10. Bedside table
If possible, offer guests a bedside table on at least one, if not both sides of the bed. They can keep their phone and reading materials on it, and you can place their lamp on their bedside. Even if there’s little to no space, you could install a floating shelf to hold items, or even place a wide stack of decorative boxes. And make sure that the height is almost exactly the same height as the top of the mattress to avoid awkward stretching up or down.
11. Free storage space
Although I always keep my clothes in my suitcase, lots of people like to take them out and either place them in a dresser or hang them in the closet. So, even if you can just clean out one drawer and a tiny space in the closet, that’ll do. Just make enough space to place a few items in each spot.
12. Flowers/Greenery
In a guest room, I always love to add some sort of flowers or greenery. Tomorrow my mother in law will be staying with us so tonight I went to Whole Foods and picked up a branch of winter berry and just stuck it in a nice glass vase. It was super easy, inexpensive, seasonal, and adds that extra special touch to a room. At this time of year, you could even go outside, cut a branch or two that has colorful leaves and put them in a vase. I love using the natural elements that are available right in my own backyard. Plus nothing is better than free.
13. Extra blankets and pillows
It’s always nice to have lots of pillow and blanket options. I start out cold and end up hot, my husband starts out hot and ends up cold. So, having lots of easily accessible blankets is a huge plus. And pillows are extremely personal, 1, 2, flat, fluffy, firm, soft. So, having a few different pillow options feels like a wonderful luxury to guests!
14. Bedside rug

If your room has wood floors, it’s a great idea to have a rug. Either a large, almost wall to wall rug, or even a small runner on each side. It helps to ease the transition from a warm bed to a cold floor.
15. Iphone charger/docking station
A nice modern day amenity is to find an inexpensive docking station or even just an extra charger to put in the guest room. I know I forget my charger about half the time I travel so I’m always pleasantly surprised when there is an iphone charger waiting for me wherever I go.
16. Wireless password

This is another modern day amenity, the wireless password. Guests may want to check their email, stream movies, or work while they’re in your home, but they’d rather not use up all of their data. So, why not be proactive and give them your wifi password on a cute print out. There are lots of great options on Etsy for less than 10 dollars.

17. Hallway nightlight
And last but not least, it’s a good idea to put a nightlight in your hallway. If your guests need to use the restroom in the middle of the night, it’s a nice touch to subtly lead the way. That way they avoid having to turn on bright lights or running into walls. It might also be a good idea to add one to the guest bedroom as well.
Well, that’s it, 17 easy ways to turn your guest bedroom into a luxurious bed and breakfast. No doubt if you try some of these, your guests will nominate you the best place in town to stay! And let me know in the comments below any special touches you like to make to your guest bedroom to let them know how much you care. I’d love to hear them and add them to my to do list!
And if you need any help with the overall decorating of your guest bedroom before the holidays, you might want to think about an e-design package as well!
Such a great series, Ashley! I didn’t think of half of these things, and all will make a more welcoming guest room. The WiFi cards were my favorite idea—so simple and classy!
Sara, I’m so glad you enjoyed the series! And that you got some tips you hadn’t thought of before. That wifi card is one of my favorites too!
